The need shown

A watchmaker wants clients to build their watch before ordering it: choose a model, its materials and its dial, and see the result from every angle.

The concept

The watch sits at the centre of the screen, in real-time 3D. Each choice changes it in front of the visitor, all the way to the final presentation box.

Build choices

• Real-time 3D watch (Three.js), lit as in a studio: case lighting, contact shadow, ambient occlusion.
• Rotation by hand, with a notch every 15° on release.
• Variant thumbnails rendered from the same model: the image and the 3D never disagree.
• Configurator covered by 60 automated tests.
